Agent Orange is a toxic herbicide that was widely used during The Korean War and the Vietnam War by the US government in the effort to destroy food crops. This toxic herbicide caused many birth defects and cancer in the people of the regions exposed to Agent Orange. Veterans of both wars were exposed to the toxic herbicide and were assured it posed no health risks. This however was not true and Agent Orange has been since proven to cause various types of cancer including liver cancer, Leukemia, throat cancer and prostate cancer.
Until rulings released this week, veterans were required to prove they had been accidentally exposed to Agent Orange. The Department of Foreign Affairs will no longer make veterans prove exposure and will presume if they served during the five years Agent Orange was used they are eligible for benefits.
Veterans aren’t the only US citizens accidentally exposed to toxic herbicides. Agent Orange was also used in the states as means to test its effectiveness. Other victims of exposure to herbicides include workers in factories where the toxins are produced and people living near testing sites.
