Tennessee authorities have confirmed one person was wounded in a shooting at Middle Tennessee State University Monday morning. The shooting occurred around 11:51 near the Business and Aerospace Building. A suspect was taken in to custody about an hour later.
Tom Tozer, the media relations director at the university, said an argument is believed to have sparked the incident. "From what I understand, there were two men who got into an argument over by some of our buildings. One shot the other in the hand, then took off,” Tozer said.
The names of the shooter and victim have not been released. It is unclear if they are students at Middle Tennessee. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital.
School officials have lifted the lockdown that was ordered shortly after the shooting. “All Clear. We are no longer on lockdown. We will resume classes and activities at 1:30pm, with the exception of the Business & Aerospace Building, which is still closed until further notice,” officials wrote in an alert on the university’s website at 1:24 p.m.
