Iraqi Vote on U.S. Withdrawal Delayed

While the Iraqi cabinet has approved a measure that would lead to the withdrawal of all U.S. troops by the end of 2011 the country’s parliament has delayed their vote until Thursday.

 

Members of parliament are said to agree on all major points except one and they are working to solve that issue.

 

According to some reports the vote will need the backing of the main Sunni parties, the minority in the Shia-led government. The Sunnis are said to want a more active role in the shaping of Iraq if they are to support the vote.

 

The plan would remove U.S. troops from the streets of Iraq and would require Iraqi permission before U.S. troops could carry out raids
