Thailand’s Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat has refused the request of the country’s military chief to call snap elections, declaring his government was legitimate and would continue to operate.
While Wongsawat defends his government the country has been polarized by continued protests from the People’s Alliance for Democracy which has occupied government offices in Bangkok and the country’s main airport.
With the country facing growing political problems Army leader Gen. Anupong Paochinda asked Wongsawat to call for elections, a request that was quickly dismissed.
