Marc Jacobs stole the show at New York Fashion Week yesterday (14.02.11) with an eclectic collection featuring rubber, sequins and cellophane.
However the fashion designer also showed his conservative side as models paraded down the runway at the Lexington Avenue Armory wearing pencil skirts, high-neck blouses, sheer tops and duffel jackets with a significant lack of flesh on show.
He said: "There's not a hint of flesh. Everything is covered up from the neck, down to the gloved hands and the legs in hose and socks. I didn't want the girls to look anything like casual or sloppy."
US Vogue fashion market director Virginia Smith praised the collection, saying: "I thought it was great. It was a mad mix of futuristic '40s.He always takes it to a whole different place."
Marc's Autumn/Winter 2011 show was one of the hottest tickets at Fashion Week with a front row featuring Whoopi Goldberg, Leighton Meester, Josh Duhamel, Fergie, Martha Stewart and Sofia Coppola.
Today (15.02.11) Karl Lagerfeld muse Vanessa Paradis is set to perform an acoustic set at The Town Hall venue wearing a bespoke Chanel dress especially created for her by the designer.
