AP Top 25 College Football Thanksgiving Schedule: #4 Texas Longhorns Face Texas A&M Aggies in Rivalry Showdown

While the AP Top 25 has the Texas Longhorns (10-1, 6-1) ranked #4 the BCS has the squad ranked #2 and if they can pull off a win over their in-state rivals the Texas A&M Aggies (4-7, 2-5) on Thanksgiving they could be in good shape to earn a trip to the Big 12 championship game.

For the past two years the Aggies have upset the Longhorns but Thursday’s game in Austin should mean enough to Texas to keep their focus. There is plenty of offensive fire-power for the Longhorns as quarterback Colt McCoy has averaged 284 yards passing in each game to produce a season in which he has thrown for 3134 yards and 30 TDs. McCoy also leads the Longhorns in rushing with 527 yards on the ground and 8 touchdowns.

McCoy has plenty of targets at the wide receiver position with Jordan Shipley and Quan Cosby. Shipley averages 81 yards per game and has found the endzone 11 times this year while Cosby averages 79 yards per game and seven touchdowns.

That offense ranks #6 in scoring with 43.5 points per game, that’s not a good sign for the Aggies as they rank #113 in scoring defense. Making it more difficult for Texas A&M is the fact their passing defense has struggled against the high-power Big 12 offenses and on Thanksgiving they will likely face the same challenges.

Texas will need more than a win on Thanksgiving to get a trip to the Big 12 championship game. The Longhorns are currently tied with the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Tech Red Raiders atop the Big 12 South. For the Longhorns to get the trip they will need to win on Thanksgiving and hope the Sooners beat Oklahoma State on Saturday or the Red Raiders lose to Baylor.

If the Sooners lose and the Red Raiders win that would leave the two teams tied and because Texas Tech beat Texas this year they would go to the championship. If the Sooners win and Texas Tech wins that would produce a three-way tie and the Longhorns would likely go to the championship game with the highest BCS ranking.
