CBS reports Lara Logan, their Chief Foreign Correspondent, is hospitalized in the United States after being beaten and sexually assaulted while covering the unrest in Egypt.
The network says Logan, 39, was filming a 60 Minutes piece on the resignation of Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak in Tahrir Square last Friday when she and her crew became separated in a mob of hundreds. Logan was beaten and sexually assaulted before a group of women and Egyptian soldiers came to her aid. She flew back to the United States Saturday morning.
No other details were released. CBS said Logan has requested privacy. Howard Kurtz of the Daily Beast reports Logan will be released from the hospital later today. A source tells the Wall Street journal that Logan was not raped. The nature of her injuries is unclear.
