Mumbai Attacks: Indian Authorities Still Fighting Nearly a Dozen Terrorists Following Deadly Attacks

Nearly 24 hours after terrorists killed more than 110 people and injured at least 300 Indian authorities in Mumbai continue to engage nearly a dozen terrorists who have holed up in at least three separate locations.

Officials have said there could still be a large number of hostages held by the terrorists at the Oberoi-Trident Hotel and the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. Gunfire and explosions can still be heard outside those buildings.

Authorities are also trying to free an Israeli rabbi and his family who were taken hostage at a Jewish center during the chaos of the attacks.

In a television address Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh assured citizens that the safety and security of India would be obtained. He then vowed to track down those responsible for the “well-planned and well-orchestrated” attacks.

Those attacks, which targeted at least seven sites, have killed 14 police officers, 81 Indian citizens and six foreigners. With the current situation involving possible hostages those numbers could increase. It was clear to Singh that the terrorists were targeting popular western sites and high-traffic areas for tourists.
