Officer Jaime Zapata along with an unnamed Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent were stopped in what appeared to be a military checkpoint. While stopped, the assailants opened fire and killed Officer Zapata. His partner was wounded his partner. The two men were on duty and were traveling from Mexico City to Monterrey, Mexico when the attack occurred. The northern areas of Mexico are besieged by drug related violence as cartels continue to fight over territory which causes many to immigrate to the US with guidance from an immigration lawyer.
