Immigration Officer Killed in Mexico

by Daun Lee

Officer Jaime Zapata along with an unnamed Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent were stopped in what appeared to be a military checkpoint. While stopped, the assailants opened fire and killed Officer Zapata. His partner was wounded his partner. The two men were on duty and were traveling from Mexico City to Monterrey, Mexico when the attack occurred. The northern areas of Mexico are besieged by drug related violence as cartels continue to fight over territory which causes many to immigrate to the US with guidance from an immigration lawyer. The ICE has a presence in Mexico to help with drug war plaguing the nation. Many of the drugs produced by the cartels make their way into the US.

States on the border between Mexico and the US are plagued with the violence that follows drug cartels. Selling drugs in the US is big business for cartels and they continue to cross the border and the violence that follows them cause high crime in border states.

Immigrants who aren’t involved in criminal activities can become American citizens through the US Immigration and Citizenship Services along with an immigration lawyer. The people of Mexico who wish to escape the cartel related crime so prevalent in Mexico fear for their personal safety. This fear can greatly diminish their quality of life, compelling them to escape to a safer environment in the US.  Immigration Lawyers will be helpful to the immigrants who seek asylum and escape from dangerous cartels.
