The rising prices of staple foods like grain, corn and rice are forcing more and more people in to poverty worldwide. The World Bank estimates that food prices have risen an astounding 30 percent since January of 2010. Some produce like tomatoes and peppers have doubled in price mostly due to the freezing temperatures in Florida and Mexico which provide the bulk of winter vegetables. The meat producing industry is also forced to raise prices because the rising cost of grains fed to livestock is passed on to the public. The price increase of staple foods is really putting the squeeze on an already financially stressed consumer.
With unemployment rates still high, providing food has become an expense that many are finding hard to maintain. As food is a necessity to survival, many unemployed and financially strapped individuals must make sacrifices. In states where unemployment is high those sacrifices come in the form of letting their houses go into foreclosure.
Mortgage payments are hard to make if individuals don’t have enough money to put food on the table. A foreclosure attorney can advise the impoverished on what to do with their foreclosed property. National Public Radio broadcasted a story profiling individuals who decided to let their homes go into foreclosure. The individuals profiled were willing to lose their homes in order to provide themselves with more pertinent necessities like food and gas. The American public no longer fears the stigma of foreclosure and employ foreclosure attorneys to assist them.
