Colt McCoy was 23/28 passing for 311 yards and two touchdowns while adding another pair of TDs on the ground, Cody Johnson rushed for 102 yards and two scores and Brandon Collins added 103 yards receiving and a TD as the #4 Texas Longhorns (11-1, 7-1) pounded the Texas A&M Aggies (4-8, 2-6) 49-9 on Thanksgiving Day to keep their dreams of a Big 12 title and berth to the BCS national championship game alive.
McCoy provided the only points in the opening frame, scoring on a 14-yard keeper to give the Longhorns a 7-0 lead and Texas pushed the advantage to 14-0 late in the second quarter when McCoy hit Collins on a 20-yard touchdown pass. The Aggies finally got on the board with 1:51 left before halftime as Randy Bullock split the uprights from 37 yards out but McCoy pushed the Longhorns down the field in the final ticks and hit Quan Cosby on a 9-yard touchdown pass for the 21-3 lead at the break.
The third quarter mirrored the first as McCoy once again provided the only points with a 16-yard run and Texas grabbed a commanding 28-3 advantage.
In the fourth frame Texas went to the ground as Johnson scored on runs of one-yard and 23-yards to boost the lead to 42-3 before the Aggies found the endzone on a 33-yard touchdown pass from Jerrod Johnson to Jeff Fuller but the two-point attempt failed and the Longhorns tacked on a 2-yard touchdown run from John Chiles to finish up the scoring.
The Longhorns will be hoping for an Oklahoma victory over the Oklahoma State on Saturday to force a three-way tie in the Big 12 South, assuming Texas Tech beats Baylor. Texas will then have to hope they remain ahead of the Sooners in the BCS rankings to get the nod to play in the Big 12 championship game. Texas already beat the Sooners by ten earlier this year but lost to Texas Tech.
Texas is currently ranked #2 in the BCS while the Sooners hold the #3.
