Wisconsin’s Scott Walker Strikes a Blow against the American Worker

by Daun Lee

This is not a good week for the American worker. Bad news just keeps pouring in regarding the plight of the working people. Unemployment is still high and many companies refuse to hire jobless workers. Boehner the minority Speaker of the House wants to cut federal employees Wisconsin’s Governor is trying to take away an important benefit of unions, collective bargaining. Collective bargaining gives unions the tool to negotiate wages, benefits and working conditions between companies and their employees. This would overturn a right that union workers have utilized for more than 50 years.

The efforts to balance state and federal budgets are hitting the American laborers hard. Dissolution of collective bargaining will set the unionized workforce back fifty years. Not that they haven’t had it bad enough with the rising price of food, gas and clothing, our essential needs amidst stagnant wage growth. They are besieged with foreclosures, unemployment and bankruptcy. Many people facing rising prices also see their debt grow which is impossible to get out of without the assistance of a bankruptcy attorney.

Taking away the right of the people to negotiate wage increases and benefits can throw even more people into debt as they strive to make ends meet. Going into credit card and loan debt is sometimes the only option individuals have. For many to get out of that debt is to hire bankruptcy lawyers. When pushed against the wall, American workers need bankruptcy attorneys to fight alongside them.
