Officials in Afghanistan’s Khost province confirms a suicide attack Friday morning left at least 9 people dead and 30 others wounded. The attack was carried out at a police checkpoint in a market area on the edge of Khost City.
Khost police chief Abdul Hakim Esaqzai said police fired shots at the suicide bomber and his vehicle, but were unable to stop him from detonating his explosives. At least three women and one police officer were among the dead. “There is only one policeman among the martyrs and two policemen among the injured. The rest are all innocent and poor people who were working in the area,” said Esaqzai.
Meanwhile, an overnight NATO air strike in the Ghaziabad district of Kunar province left more than 30 insurgents dead.
