Abigail Breslin eyes Hunger Games role

Abigail Breslin would love to take on the lead role in 'The Hunger Games'.

While fans of Suzanne Collins' book trilogy have previously called for the 14-year-old actress to play Prim in the highly anticipated film adaptation, 'Rango' star Abigail admitted Prim's older sister Katniss would be her character of choice.

She told MTV.com: "I think it's an amazing book. I'm a huge fan of the books. It's amazing, obviously it would be great [to be in the film].

"Obviously I would love to play Katniss. All the characters in the books are amazing. It's a very cool book. The characters in it are very strong and very cool. It's an amazing series."

The books focus on sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem where North America once stood. A powerful holds all the power and each year chooses one boy and one girl from each district to fight to the death.

Other actresses linked to the movie include 'Kick-Ass' star Chloe Moretz, 'True Grit' actress Hailee Steinfeld and Disney's Alyson Stoner.

Alex Pettyfer has been tipped for the role of Peeta Mellark, the male lead.
