Religious Clashes in Nigeria Kill Hundreds Following Local Elections

Religious clashes following the outcome of local elections in the town of Jos has left several hundred people dead and scores more injured in Nigeria.

According to some reports the number of dead has been listed at more than 300, mainly Christians, but those numbers have yet to be confirmed.

Muslims, angered by a rumor that their candidate had lost an election for a council seat in Jos, began rioting and targeted Christians in the divided city.

Authorities have imposed a curfew throughout the city and the army has been patrolling the streets in an effort to end the violence.
