Police in New York are reviewing surveillance video in an attempt to identify individuals who were involved in a stampede at a Long Island Wal-Mart in Valley Stream on Black Friday that left one employee dead and several more suffering various injuries.
Shoppers lined up outside the Wal-Mart awaiting the retail giant’s store opening on Friday morning and when the doors opened 34-year-old Jdimytai Damour was instantly knocked to the ground as more than 2,000 people rushed in. Damour was repeatedly stepped on and as employees attempted to help him they were knocked over.
Damour was rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead about an hour after the stampede.
The Wal-Mart was temporarily closed, angering many shoppers who complained that they had been standing in line since the previous night.
Police have admitted that identifying those involved in triggering the Wal-Mart stampede will be difficult.
