AP Top 25 College Football Scores: Kansas Jayhawks Upset #12 Missouri Tigers with Last Minute Touchdown

Todd Reesing threw for 375 yards and four touchdowns, Dezmon Briscoe had 115 yards receiving and a touchdown and Kerry Meier had 106 yards receiving and a pair of TDs including the game-winner with 27 seconds left in the game as the Kansas Jayhawks (7-5, 4-4) shocked the #12 Missouri Tigers (9-3, 5-3) 40-37 in a Big 12 North battle.

After a first quarter in which Kansas provided the only points with a Jacob Branstetter 34-yard field goal the second frame saw a bit more offensive action as Reesing began to warm up. The Kansas QB found Briscoe on a 9-yard touchdown pass for a 10-0 lead but Missouri answered as Chase Daniel hit Chase Coffman on a 5-yard TD to pull to within 10-7. Midway through the second Daniel was called for intentional grounding while in the endzone resulting in a safety and then Reesing led the Jayhawks down the field and found Dexton Fields on a 25-yard TD pass for the 19-7 advantage. Missouri managed to end the half with a field goal from Jeff Wolfert to stay within sight of the Jayhawks.

Kansas extended their lead to 26-10 in the third quarter when Jake harp scored on a 19-yard run and it looked like the Jayhawks had the game in control. That was quickly erased as Daniel found Jeremy Maclin on a 25-yard touchdown pass to pull to within 26-16 following a failed two-point attempt. Kansas then turned the ball over and Daniel made them pay as he found Tommy Saunders on a 35-yard touchdown pass and the Tigers were within 26-23.

Missouri grabbed their first lead of the game midway through the fourth when Daniel and Coffman hooked up on a 6-yard touchdown and Kansas was looking at a 30-26 deficit. That didn’t last long though as Reesing got back on track and hit Meier on an 8-yard TD pass to jump back in front 33-30 with 4:26 left in the game but Missouri looked to reestablish momentum when Nate Washington pounded in the go-ahead touchdown from 6-yards out with just under two minutes left in the game.

That’s when Kansas put together the game-winning drive as Reesing hit Meier on a 26-yarder with 27 seconds left on the clock to get the upset.

Missouri had already locked up the Big 12 North and will be facing either Texas, Texas Tech or Oklahoma in the championship game.
