USA Today College Football Rankings Week 14: Alabama Holds Top Spot while Oklahoma Sooners Remain #2
The USA Today college football rankings for Week 14 keep the Alabama Crimson Tide at #1 while the Oklahoma Sooners, coming off a huge road win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys, hold on to their #2 spot and now hope for the voters to give them the nod to play in the Big 12 championship game.
That will be difficult as the Texas Longhorns jumped past the Florida Gators to land at #3 in the USA Today college football rankings after pounding Texas A&M on Thanksgiving. The Longhorns already beat the Sooners this year and will likely get the BCS nod when the rankings are released later on Sunday.
Despite pasting the Florida State Seminoles the Florida Gators dropped to #4 in this week’s rankings but that means little as they already earned their ticket to the SEC Championship game where they will face Alabama. The winner of that game will almost certainly be playing for the BCS national championship in Miami.
Oklahoma and Texas are tied with Texas Tech for first-place in the Big 12 South and the BCS rankings will determine who takes on the Big 12 North champion Missouri Tigers next Saturday. Texas knocked off Oklahoma 45-35 earlier this year and that will likely be the determining factor in sending the Longhorns to Kansas City. With a win in the Big 12 championship game the Longhorns would probably face the SEC championship winner for the BCS title.
Landing at #5 and #6 in the USA Today college football rankings are the USC Trojans and Penn State Nittany Lions who will meet in Pasadena in the Rose Bowl. USC had to wait till the final week of the season to earn their ticket, only advancing after Oregon State fell to Oregon on Saturday.
