BCS College Football Rankings Give Nod to Oklahoma Sooners Over Texas Longhorns, Alabama Remains #1
The BCS college football rankings are in and the Oklahoma Sooners capitalized on a huge win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys to leapfrog the Texas Longhorns and take the #2 ranking and thus earn a trip to the Big 12 championship game where they will face the Missouri Tigers.
The Alabama Crimson Tide held their #1 ranking and controls their destiny in the chase for a BCS national title. They will face the #4 Florida Gators in SEC Championship next Saturday with the winner likely earning a trip to Miami to play for the national championship.
For #2 Oklahoma, a win in the Big 12 championship would almost certainly place them in Miami where they would face the SEC winner. The Sooners may have to thank the Kansas Jayhawks for their #2 ranking after knocking off Missouri on Saturday.
The Sooners beat Kansas earlier this year while the Texas Longhorns knocked off Missouri. The Tigers went into Saturday’s game ranked #13 in the BCS and helped the Longhorns strength of schedule but their loss hit Texas hard while boosting the significance of the Sooners win over Kansas.
Holding steady at #4 are the Florida Gators who still control their destiny and a win over Alabama would put them in place to challenge for the BCS national championship.
