Proposal down the drain

An American man's marriage proposal went seriously wrong when he dropped the ring down a sewer.

John Iverson of Colorado got down on one knee for his beloved - but moments after she said yes lost grip of the wedding band which fell into a grate and landed in a sewer.

Denver firefighters spent 45 minutes looking for the ring before they fished it back out.

A relieved John said: "I was overjoyed by the fact that she said yes, so the fact that the ring went in there - I was upset, but I was still happy.
