An Egyptian man has reportedly honored Facebook.com in a
special way – he named his daughter after the social networking site. According
to Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram, Jamal Ibrahim chose named his daughter Facebook
because of the role the site played in helping people organize recent political
protests. Eighteen days of protests forced President Hosni Mubarak to resign
after 30 years in power. Mubarak handed over power to the Supreme Council of
the Armed Forces.
TechCrunch posted an English translation of Al-Ahram’s article.
A portion of the article reads, “The girl's family, friends, and neighbors in
the Ibrahimya region gathered around the new born to express their continuing
support for the revolution that started on Facebook. 'Facebook' received many
gifts from the youth who were overjoyed by her arrival and the new name-a name
that shocked the entire world."
