by Daun Lee

Last night at the American Cinemas award show the movie “The Social Network” took the award for Best Picture. With the Academy Awards approaching, various news agencies and film critics will be making their predictions on who will take home an Oscar. Some believe The King’s Speech will be the overall winner, but with the news of the Eddie winner other’s think the Best Picture statue will go to the “The Social Network”.

“The Social Network” chronicles the start of the immensely popular networking site Facebook. The widely popular website allows friends and family to keep with each other‘s daily lives. Many businesses and search engine optimization firms are aware of the influence social networking sires have on the lives of people. Facebook has surpassed MySpace in popularity and is extremely influential as our society plunges deeper into the information age.

Recent events in Egypt show how influential social networking can be on a nation of people. Protestors in Egypt utilized the site to drum up supporters for the uprising which prompted its leader to ‘kill’ the internet briefly in an attempted to put down the anti-government protests. If Facebook can topple a government, imagine what it can do for a business. Search engine optimization has realized the importance of social networking in increasing a business’s internet traffic. Using social networking in search engine optimization can be very profitable for a business if successfully employed in network marketing.
