Sex Offender Charged With Molesting Daughter of Dying Friend

Edward Lord, 51, was arrested Friday and charged with indecent assault and corrupting the morals of a minor whose dying father had asked him to watch over his wife and young daughter. Lord's lewd act include inappropriately touching the girl on two occasions, in December and January, Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.

Lord a registered sexual predator was convicted of rape and related charges in 1992 Philadelphia for repeatedly assaulting a young girl who was left in his care by her parents, who were his friends, according to police and news reports at the time. He served 10 years in state prison, and upon his release was required to register for life as a sexual offender under Megan's Law, Chitwood said.

In 2008, while he was supposed to be living in Upper Darby, PA, Lord skipped town and moved to Washington state, police said. He eventually was caught upon his return, and served six months for failing to register as a sex offender, according to court records.

When he was released, he returned to his house on Croyden Road near Lamport, Chitwood said. Police were notified in January about his latest alleged victim after the girl's relatives noticed she was not eating, sleeping or socializing, Chitwood said.

She confided in a family member that Lord, whom she knew as "Mr. Ed," had fondled her - once above and once below her clothing - while she was in his care, police said.

"He's the profile of what predators do and that's do it again," Chitwood said. "Who knows what he's been doing?"

Lord remains in prison on $100,000 cash bail, police said.
