New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress appeared in court on Monday on weapons possession charges following an accidental shooting at a nightclub over the weekend in which Burress shot himself in the thigh.
While defense attorney Benjamin Brafman argued for no bail Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Felicia Mennin ordered bail set at $100,000 and set a March court date for Burress to appear where he will answer to two counts of felony possession of a weapon in the second degree.
Burress not only violated New York law by carrying the pistol into the club but he had no permit for the weapon either.
The 31-year-old accidentally shot himself Friday night while at the Latin Quarter nightclub. He was treated at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center for a non life-threatening injury.
Antonio Pierce, a teammate of Burress, could also be facing charges for allegedly attempting to hide the weapon.
If convicted Burress could be facing 3 ½ to 15 years in jail.
