Monday Night Football Schedule: Jacksonville Jaguars Face Houston Texans in Battle of AFC South Bottom Feeders

When they drew up the schedule for Monday Night Football this may not have been what they had in mind but closing out Week 13 action will be the Jacksonville Jaguars (4-7) and the Houston Texas (4-7), both of whom will be sitting at home when the AFC playoffs begin.

For the Texans it will be their first Monday Night Football game and they’ll get to host the Jaguars making it all the more special. Houston has posted a 3-2 record at home while the Jags have gone 3-2 on the road.

The Jaguars have lost four of their last five with their only win coming against the winless Detroit Lions. As for the Texans the 2008 campaign has been one of streaks, after dropping their first four games of the season they won their next three, dropped their next three and are now coming off a win against the Cleveland Browns.

Jacksonville will have to get their running game going against the Texans after posting an abysmal 35 yards rushing against the Minnesota Vikings last week. With Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew in the backfield they should be able to exploit a Texans defense that allows 129 rushing yards per game.

Houston will be using their own running game as the dynamic Steve Slaton has looked solid over the past two weeks and provides the Texans with a legitimate threat out of the backfield. Andre Johnson has already established himself as one of the NFL’s premier receivers, averaging a league best 97.4 yards per game but he has only found the endzone three times. Johnson has had to adjust to a revolving quarterback situation and that has no doubt hurt the Texas this year following a 2007 where they posted a franchise best 8-8 mark.

Kickoff for Monday Night Football is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.
