New York Knicks Acquire Carmelo Anthony

Denver Nuggets finalize deal in three team deal

Eleven players in the NBA are on the move today after a deal to move Carmelo Anthony to New York was finished. The Denver Nuggets star has been at the center of trade speculation since he refused to sign a contract extension this summer, but a deal has taken a long time to work out with hid desired team, the New York Knicks.

Last night it was announced that a trade had been accepted by the Nuggets before the Thursday trade deadline, which allows them to shuffle more players if they want to. In the deal, the Knicks get Anthony and four more players: Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkman.

The Knicks are trading away a total of six players to two different teams. The Nuggets will receive Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari and Timofey Mozgov. The Knicks will send Anthony Randolph and Eddy Curry to the Minesota Timberwolves in return for Corey Brewer.

At least one player in the trade is likely not done moving yet. Though Gallinari has come into his own this season and is a fan favorite, rumors are swirling that the Nuggets are looking to move him before the February 24th trade deadline. They would likely look for a first-round draft pick as compensation and possible destinations include the Los Angeles Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors.

The Knicks are giving up a lot to get Anthony, and some feel that they may have chipped away at the foundation of an already good team. That next season's salary cap may be structured differently could also hurt the Knicks plans for future growth.
