Phoenix Kiosk has awarded a brand-new, innovative education kiosk to Soka University. The kiosk was given away as part of a contest that was open to every accredited college and university in the United States.
Students, administrators and staff were invited to write a brief, 200-word essay that shared their most creative ideas for kiosk applications on campus.
Phoenix Kiosk received hundreds of essays that detailed how an education kiosk could fill service voids and provide new benefits in the college environment. The contest was a one-of-a-kind opportunity to build an education kiosk from scratch.
Many of the essays included campus applications such as:
• Class Registration
• Book/Research Material Location
• Campus Maps/Way-Finding
• Book Store Online Purchasing
• Event/Intramural Calendars
• Volunteer Applications
“Phoenix Kiosk has always recognized the importance of being actively involved in the vertical markets that we service,” said Alan Work, General Manager of Phoenix Kiosk. “This contest presented a great opportunity to reach out and actively engage colleges and universities. We learned more about how kiosks can be adapted for life on campus, and we also rewarded a gracious university with a brand-new, valuable kiosk.”
Ultimately, Phoenix Kiosk’s panel of judges agreed that the essay received from Wendy Harder of Soka University of America was the most detailed, creative submittal. Soka University, a private liberal arts college founded upon the Buddhist principles of peace, human rights and the sanctity of life, is located in Aliso Viejo, Calif. Harder and her school have amazing plans for their new kiosk.
“Our new kiosk will be able to put a map and information at (guests’) fingertips,” Harder said. “We’re also opening our new 1,000-seat Soka Performing Arts Center in late 2011, and we hope that visitors will be able to see upcoming events and order tickets even when the box office is closed. This kiosk will be a great way help visitors feel more comfortable on campus.”
Phoenix Kiosk, a kiosk manufacturer, is no stranger to philanthropy. It is heavily involved with local and regional charity efforts. For instance, in 2010, Phoenix Kiosk replaced a human resources kiosk for a local Goodwill store that lost its original unit in a fire. Also, Phoenix Kiosk partnered with Southwest Network, a non-profit organization that provides behavioral health services to children, adults and families throughout the Phoenix area. Phoenix Kiosk donated $500 to Southwest Network, which was used to provide holiday dinners to several needy families.
