Gastric Bypass Surgery More Effective than the Lap-Band

by Daun Lee

Just one week after the FDA approved the lap-band surgeries for those who aren’t morbidly obese; studies find gastric-bypass surgery is more effective. Those who are obese and suffer from diabetes lost more weight when they had that surgery. While patients who had the Lap-Band procedure lost weight at the rate of 31 percent, patients of gastric bypass lost weight at an average of 86 percent.  The risk associated with gastric bypass and Lap-Band surgeries are the same.

Losing excess weight can be very difficult for those who are overweight or obese. They must work hard to lose and then maintain their new physiques. Many people lose weight for reasons of health but there are also many who chose to drop weight so they look better and boost their self-esteem. Sometimes losing the extra weight isn’t enough. Men and women who have lost weight can have problem areas where fat remains, for those individuals liposuction can target those areas.

Losing weight requires following a sensible diet and getting regular exercise but that can’t always eliminate all the excess weight. As a minimally invasive procedure, liposuction can offer people the chance to sculpt their problem areas. On the body the stomach, buttocks, upper thighs and upper arms have the tendency to retain fat that even with exercise can be hard to reduce. Liposuction offers individuals the chance to trim the problem areas of the body and give them more self-confidence.
