Rhys Ifans would have been better Super Furry frontman?

Rhys Ifans could have been in Wales' answer to Guns N' Roses had he stuck at his music career.

The Welsh star - who was an original member of Super Furry Animals before leaving to concentrate on acting - would have been a "better frontman" for the group than lead singer Gruff Rhys, who reckons he is more "charismatic" than himslef.

Gruff explained: "He was always a great actor, so it would have been a terrible shame if he'd given up acting. He was the singer in the band and I was playing guitar. He's such a charismatic man that he would have been a much better frontman than I could ever be.

"We'd probably have been like Guns N' Roses or something. We'd have done one amazing record and then died."

Gruff also admitted some of the songs the 'Notting Hill' star recorded alongside Super Furry Animals drummer Dafydd Leuan - released under the band name The Peth in 2008 - were "genius".

He added to Britain's Q magazine: "It would have been much more rock and roll with Rhys in the band. But that was what was great about the record he did with Daf, 'The Peth'.

"Some of the songs on that album, Rhys and Daf had written 15 years earlier. So it's good that something came out that gives you an idea of what it would've been like. Songs like 'Let's Go F***ing Mental' are genius."
