The Libyan government reports recently-resigned interior minister Abdul Fattah Younis al Aibdi has been kidnapped. According to media reports, al Aibdi was abducted by “gangs” in Benghazi. Officials have released few details on the situation.
Al Aibdi resigned Monday after accusing Libyan president Moammar Gadhafi of planning to launch a massive attack against civilians. "Gadhafi told me he was planning on using airplanes against the people in Benghazi, and I told him that he will have thousands of people killed if he does that," he said in a telephone interview earlier Wednesday.
Al Aibdi said he supports the protests, which began on February 15. He also called on armed forces to join the demonstrations.
The Interior Ministry reports 300 people have been killed in the unrest so far.
