Deron Williams to be Traded to the Nets
New Jersey Rebounds from Melo Mishap
The New Jersey Nets put a lot of time and effort into getting Carmelo Anthony to join their team. When that failed, they quickly fell on a backup plan that has reportedly allowed them to take Deron Williams from the Utah Jazz. The Nets will give up Derrick Favors and Devin Harris in the deal, two players that have been included in trade talks for the last few weeks. The deal also includes the Golden State Warriors, though it is unknown in what their role is.
Williams can become a free agent after next season ends, and it was widely rumored that the New York Knicks were interested in acquiring either him or Chris Paul to go along with Anthony and Amare Stoudemire. Williams will be signing his next contract under a new collective bargaining agreement, and the possibilities of how/where he can sign are unknown.
The Jazz are trading away a critical piece of their team. Williams has averaged over 20 points a game, nearly 4 rebounds and 10 assists. They are receiving the point guard Harris, who is averaging 15 points and 7.6 assists and the rookie Favors. Favors was the third overall pick in the NBA draft and is averaging 6.3 points and 5.3 rebounds in just under 20 minutes a game.
