Supreme Court to Allow Lawsuits against Auto Makers regarding Lap-belts.

by Daun Lee

The Supreme Court has decided to allow the families of victims killed in auto accidents where only lap-belts were installed in rear seats. The court stated that federal safety regulations do not exempt auto manufacturers from lawsuits involving lap-belts from proceeding. The objections of the auto industry claim they were following regulations mandated by the feds and shouldn’t be held accountable for those injuries or deaths. Safety regulations have changed and all vehicles manufactured after 2007 are required to have lap and shoulder belts in forward facing seats. The Supreme Court cited that auto makers are libel and the regulations were the minimum safety precautions that should be taken but that didn’t exclude them from product defect cases.

Every year thousands of people lose their lives because of auto accidents and millions of others are injured. Lucky individuals loose only property. Most auto collisions are caused by the negligence of others or auto manufacturers. These loses can be financially troublesome but with an accident attorney these individuals or their families can demand compensation.

Families of the deceased can incur debt associated with medical treatment and burial expenses, especially if the decedent was the primary provider. For those who are physical injured medical bills and lost wages become a burden unless they enlist the aid of an accident lawyer. Receiving financial compensation can’t replace a loved one or heal the body but an accident lawyer can give the victims a sense of justice.
