My Chemical Romance think now is the best time to like rock music, because it isn't "cool".
The 'Na Na Na' rockers reckon the fact guitar-based music isn't charting very highly at present makes it "dangerous", as it the people who do listen to it become outsiders.
Guitarist Ray Toro told NME magazine: "Rock's in bad shape. It's not cool to like rock music these days, and I think that's really cool. It gives danger back to it.
"It's like when you were a metal head and everyone was like, 'what the f**k are you listening to, that sucks! That's where we are."
Lead singer Gerard Way - who makes up the band alongside his brother Mikey and Frank Iero - said he feels in recent times hip hop, in particular Kanye West, has made existing rockers look foolish.
He explained: "You saw Kanye do this amazing record and making videos that are really f***ing artistic. Whereas pop was usually a throwaway thing, you had somebody who gave a s**t and took a chance, so in some ways that makes a bunch of guys standing around with instruments look really foolish.
"Especially ones who aren't trying to say anything."
My Chemical Romance's 'Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys' album is out now, and the group are presently on tour in Europe.
