Los Angeles Clippers Deal Baron Davis to Cleveland
Clippers receive Mo Williams and Jamario Moon
The Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers to acquire Mo Williams and Jamario Moon in return for point guard Baron Davis and a first round pick in the 2011 NBA draft. The trade allows the Clippers to save money on Davis' contract over the next two years, possibly looking to sign a big name player in the future.
The Cavaliers are more interested in the draft pick than in having Davis run the point. While they are happy to have a player who can produce, they know that Davis has a history of not trying his hardest when he is not happy with his situation. Going to a league-worst Cavaliers team is probably less than an exciting prospect for the veteran. He will also be reunited with a coach, Byron Scott, who he has had trouble with in the past.
There are also questions about how the trade will affect the Clippers biggest star this season, rookie Blake Griffin. It seemed as though Griffin and Davis had been developing a chemistry, with highlight reel alley-oops a fairly regular occurrence. Davis even assisted Griffin in the dunk that won the Slam Dunk Contest on Saturday night. Only time will tell if the chemistry will carry over to the new additions.
