Toyota has issued yet another recall for problems with gas pedals becoming stuck and causing sudden acceleration. This time the automaker is recalling 2.17 million vehicles. The recall includes:
- 761,000 2006 through 2010 RAV4
- 603,000 2003 through 2009 4Runner
- 397,000 2004 through 2006 Highlander and Highlander HV
- 372,000 2004 through 2007 RX 330, RX 350, and RX 400h
- 20,000 2006 and 2007 Model Year GS 300 and GS 350
- 17,000 2008 through 2011 Lexus LX 570
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released a statement saying they requested the additional “pedal entrapment” recalls after reviewing documents from Toyota. “As a result of the agency's review, NHTSA asked Toyota to recall these additional vehicles, and now that the company has done so, our investigation is closed,” said NHTSA administrator David Strickland.
Toyota is not the only automaker to announce a recall this week. On Wednesday, Ford recalled about 150,000 F 150 trucks manufactured between 2004 and 2005. Ford said the affected vehicles have a badly placed wire which could lead to a short circuit and airbag problems. The airbags may deploy when they are not needed. In most reported cases the airbags deployed seconds after the truck was started and was still parked. In other cases the trucks were being driven.
