12 Dead in Bombing in Ramadi, Iraq

Iraqi police say at least 12 people were killed Thursday in a suicide bombing in Ramadi, the capital of Anbar province. The attacked occurred at a cultural center where people were gathered for a ceremony to celebrate of the birth of the prophet Mohammed. Authorities say Anbar deputy governor Hikmet Khalaf was among the 24 people injured in the blast.

“We were in the middle of a ceremony to celebrate the anniversary of Prophet Muhammad's birthday when a male suicide bomber came to the door of the room and said 'God is great' and blew himself up,” Khalaf told Reuters.

Ramadi is located 60 miles west of Baghdad. The city was once occupied by al Qaeda.
