Bill Richardson Picked as Commerce Secretary by President-elect Barack Obama

President-elect Barack Obama has selected another big name for his cabinet as he tapped New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson as his Commerce Secretary.

Richardson had been a candidate in the Democratic presidential primaries but after dropping out of the race he quickly endorsed Obama. Before serving as Gov. Richardson served as the Secretary of Energy during Bill Clinton’s administration. Prior to that Richardson was the United States Ambassador to the United Nations in the Clinton administration following seven terms as a congressman.

Obama expressed his confidence in his selection noting, “During his time in state government and Congress, and in two tours of duty in the cabinet, Bill has seen from just about every angle what makes our economy work and what keeps it from working better.”
