The American Cornhole 2008 TurkeyHole Classic was a huge success Saturday November 29, 2008. The ACO had over 300 participants pitching cornhole bags in five different cities across the country. Over 100 players competed in the TopGun Singles events trying to win cash prizes and CornyForty points to solidify their ACO Cornhole Rankings and pre-qualification status for the King of Cornhole competition set for January 24, 2009 in Las Vegas, NV at the ACO U.S. Nationals.
The days strongest TopGun field goes out to Indianapolis whose final four consisted of four of the top eight recognized ACO PRO players in the world with Randy Atha, Steve Vanderver, Mike Schaffer and Eric Hinerman. Eric Hinerman rose to the occasion to close the deal on his first ACO TopGun victory walking away with a few hundred dollars in cash and securing
another twenty-four CornyForty points in the process.
Louisville had a very strong field as well with up and coming star Dale Smith giving the King of Cornhole - Matt Guy all he could handle in the finals of the TopGun. But, the King showed us why he is the King and wins again.
Chicago had a field of thirty two players with young unranked cornhole player named Dave Sutton taking TopGun in the Windy City contest. Once again showing the ACO that there is a lot of talent yet to be found for this sport across the country. Dave is as good as they come, he is the real deal and we are certain will be showing up on the ACO Tour for years to come.
Columbus, OH hosted its first ACO Branded tournament with a competitive doubles field of thirteen teams, with partners Mike Zurborg and Jason Reineke taking first place
Spartanburg, SC Martin Barriga owner of the Alamos Cantina & Grill one of the hot new cornhole cafes in town defeated Chris Barton in a best of three battle taking home cash and his first CornyForty points of the year.
But the real star of the day is Sheri Eggleton from Indy who not only qualified as the first ACO PRO with a 96 SCR Ranking but she gave #2 player in the world Randy Atha all he could handle in the TopGun winning game one and going up 8 -0 in game two before Randy was able to turn it around and give her the knock out punch. This is exciting for Sheri and the sport of cornhole. She already is one of the odds on favorites to be the first women to seriously compete for the crown at the King of Cornhole in Las Vegas.
American Cornhole Organization, the governing body of the sport of cornhole, wants to transform the backyard game of cornhole into a national sport. One of the ways the ACO is doing this is by standardizing the game of cornhole. Whenever an ACO cornhole tournament or league is played the cornhole players are assured the rules, boards, and bags - all the elements of the game - have the same standards no matter where they play. Cornhole players can concentrate on game skills rather than worrying about adjusting to equipment inconsistencies and cornhole rule variances.
The ACO has five signature American Cornhole Master Series Tournaments throughout the year. A good showing in one of these tournaments will get you an invitation to play in the King of Cornhole Tournament held in Las Vegas in January. Players compete in the February IceHole Classic, the May Cornhole de Mayo, the July MaizeKraze, the September Corhole Classic, and the November
TurkeyHole Classic, and various other sanctioned ACO tournaments and leagues throughtout the year.
