Denise Welch 'gobsmacked' at DOI success

Denise Welch believes she can win 'Dancing On Ice'.

The 52-year-old presenter - who is partnered with Matt Evers, 34 - admits she is shocked to be in week eight, the oldest contestant in the show's history ever to get so far, but is now starting to think she could win thanks to public support.

She said: "I'm totally gobsmacked I've got this far, but I'm really starting to believe I can do it.

"I thought I would have been out weeks ago and I think the judges did too. Of course, I get a bit miffed when the judges give me low marks but the public have been voting for me and keeping me in and that's a fantastic boost.

"I think some people are starting to worry I could get to the final with the 'Loose Women' supporters."

While Denise does not think of herself as the best person on the ITV show - fronted by Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby - she is glad at the confidence she has gained from taking part.

She told The Daily Mirror: "Going out in front of a million viewers in a transparent leotard was something I'd never have believed I could do. I'm loving the whole experience and I've already signed up to go on the Dancing On Ice tour. I am so proud of what I've achieved and how much I keep improving, but my partner Matt has been a fantastic teacher."
