Glynis Barber bows out of EastEnders

Glynis Barber has announced she is leaving 'EastEnders'.

The 55-year-old actress - whose scheming alter-ego Glenda Mitchell first appeared in the BBC One soap in January 2010 - has confirmed she plans to bow out of the show next month.

After having been in the centre of a whole host of dramas over the past year, Glenda will find herself increasingly isolated on Albert Square after daughter Roxy (Rita Simmons) accuses her of stealing her inheritance.

However, Glynis hasn't ruled out returning to the soap in the future.

Writing on her official website, she said: "2010 was a busy and exciting year for me playing Glenda Mitchell in 'EastEnders'. After Glenda manages to alienate practically everyone on Albert Square, she makes her exit in March 2011.

"But will she be back in the future to wreak more havoc? Well 'she ain't dead' so anything is possible... watch this space!(sic)"

But before she leaves the Square, Glenda looks set to wreak havoc, revealing all about her saucy affair with Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) in the hope of convincing Roxy he planted the inheritance money in her home.

Glynis recently revealed: "Glenda doesn't think that Roxy will take Phil's word over hers, so she's devastated when she does. She instantly knows that Phil planted the cash there and is so hurt that Roxy believes him instead of her - and that's why she blurts out the truth about the affair.

"There's a deathly silence in the pub when Glenda makes her confession."
