Blocked Shot Leads Knicks to Win Over Heat
Stoudemire's late block of a Lebron James layup proves difference
The NBA's Sunday night game couldn't have been more anticipated. The Miami Heat with Lebron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh have made their fair share of enemies since "The Decision" last summer. They were hosting a New York Knicks team that just pulled off a major trade to bring Carmelo Anthony to the team to play alongside Amare Stoudemire. How fitting that the game's decisive play would involve James, Anthony and Stoudemire.
New York turned the ball over with only 12.7 seconds left on the clock. They were holding on to a one point lead, but there was plenty of time for the Heat to make a play and steal the game. Lebron James got the ball, and Carmelo Anthony was defending him. He dribbled down the lane to the left, just got passed Anthony and went up for a layup. As he released the ball Stoudemire came across the lane and blocked the shot to preserve the lead. The Knicks went on to win 86-91.
New York stayed in this game thanks to several scoring binges. Towards the end of the first half they found themselves down by 15 points and in danger of losing control. They then scored 16 straight points to go into halftime with a one points lead, 52-51. Another run kept them in the game towards the end. With just over three minutes left in the game, the Knicks were down 84-78. They finished the game on a 9-2 run to take the victory.
Carmelo Anthony scored 29 points and had 9 rebounds while Stoudemire added 16 points and 10 rebounds of his own. Lebron James was Miami's high scorer with 27 points and seven rebounds. Chris Bosh scored 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds while Dwyane Wade finished with only 12 points.
