Georgia’s Defense Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Dismissed

Georgia Prime Minister Grigol Mgaloblishvili has announced that the country’s defense minister and foreign affairs minister have been dismissed.

Mgaloblishvili announced that Minister of Defense David Kezerashvili and Foreign Minister Ekaterina Tkeshelashvili were being forced to step down. Minister of Education and Science Gia Nodiya was also dismissed.

Mgaloblishvili was announced as Georgia’s new prime minister by President Mikhail Saakashvili in October and was given time to make the necessary changes to the government. In dismissing the ministers Mgaloblishvili stated, “today there are new calls before the country, which must be solved by new appointment.”

While not directly referencing the country’s recent war with Russia, Saakashvili’s government has been criticized heavily for his actions during the conflict.
