Prince Charles celebrates St. David's Day in Wales

Britain's Prince Charles celebrated St. David's Day yesterday (01.03.11) by paying a visit to Carmarthenshire in Wales.

The heir to the throne travelled to Llandovery College where he was treated to a traditional Welsh showcase of literature, music and performance.

After meeting Rhydian Roberts - who was runner-up in Simon Cowell's talent search show 'The X Factor' in 2007 - and seeing him perform a number of Welsh songs, the prince admitted he wished he had taken some dancing lessons from 'Promise This' hitmaker Cheryl Cole when he met her last week.

Charles joked: "I feel embarrassed because I think unless you sing or you dance you feel pointless standing up here. I knew I should have taken those lessons from Cheryl Cole, tango dancing."

Meanwhile, the royal's visit to the school - which was also celebrating its 163rd anniversary - saw him and the Chinese ambassador to the UK open a new classroom as part of a project it is hoped will strengthen ties between China and Britain.

The 62-year-old prince also got into the spirit of St. David's Day - an annual event which commemorates the patron saint of Wales - by enjoying a traditional Cwrw Calon Cymru (heart of Wales) - beer in Llandovery.
