Colt McCoy Named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, Second Team QB

Texas quarterback Colt McCoy was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year on Thursday, but was placed on the AP Big 12 All-Conference second team.

Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford was named to the All-Big 12 first team over McCoy by just one vote.

Very similar to the Big 12 South title race, the Texas Tech Red Raiders helped to defeat the Longhorns and move the Sooners on top in their three-team tie.

Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell was the only other quarterback to get a vote from the 20 voters who decided the AP's Big 12 all-conference teams. Harrell picked up four votes: one for first team and three for second team. Three of those voters went with Bradford at second team and left McCoy off the ballot.

Bradford and McCoy were both named on 16 of the 20 ballots, nine of which favored McCoy over Bradford. Seven went the other way.

Oklahoma earned a league-best six first-team all-conference picks, including offensive lineman Duke Robinson, who was first-team last year. Linebacker Travis Lewis, the only freshman to make either team, was named the Defensive Player of the Year and second-teamer. Missouri has five first-teamers, as does Texas Tech.

Only two players were unanimous choices: Texas Tech receiver Michael Crabtree and Missouri defensive back William Moore. This was Crabtree's second straight season as a unanimous pick.

Texas defensive lineman Brian Orakpo was the only member of the Longhorns named to the first team, but was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.

Missouri Tigers sophomore Jeremy Maclin was named to the first team at two positions, receiver and all-purpose, which accounts for his abilities as a returner. He was a unanimous first-teamer at all-purpose last season.

Ironically, Oklahoma lineman Jon Cooper was named Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year, but like McCoy, was named to the second team.
