NBA Schedule Friday Dec 5: Greg Oden and Portland Trailblazers Face Kevin Garnett and Boston Celtics in Featured Matchup

The NBA has 11 games on schedule for Friday night with the featured match-up pitting the surging Portland Trailblazers (14-6) against the dominant Boston Celtics (18-2) in what is sure to be a battle of youth versus experience.

Portland, winners of their last six and leaders of the Northwest Division, are stacked with young talent in Brandon Roy, Greg Oden Rudy Fernandez and LaMarcus Aldridge but they’ll have their work cut out for them as they travel to take on Boston. The Celtics have won 10 straight and while the big three of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen are the dominant force the rise of Rajon Rondo has pushed Boston to another level. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.

Dwight Howard has his Orlando Magic (14-5) atop the Southeast Division and they’ll be hosting the struggling Oklahoma City Thunder (2-17) who have yet to figure out how all their pieces are supposed to fit and with a 1-8 mark on the road they’ll have a tough time figuring it out on Friday. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.

Kobe Bryant has captained the Los Angeles Lakers (15-2) to an impressive start, ensuring that everybody is playing their role and they’ll look to keep things rolling on Friday when they hit the road to face the Washington Wizards (3-13) who have been devastated by injuries and look nothing like the playoff team from one year ago. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.

Joe Johnson and the Atlanta Hawks (11-6) have built off their late season success from a year ago and have proven they can play with the NBA’s elite and with a 6-1 record at home they’ll be a tough match-up for the depleted NY Knicks (8-10) who have struggled on the road with a 2-6 record. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

LeBron James has been enjoying his 2008 campaign thus far as his Cleveland Cavaliers (15-3) have won their last six games and sit atop the Central Division. On Friday they’ll host the Indiana Pacers (7-11) who are sitting at the bottom of the Central. The Cavs have a perfect 10-0 mark at home, not good for Indiana. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

The New Jersey Nets (9-8) have been getting great play from Devin Harris and while their 3-5 mark at home has been disappointing they have shown signs that they could be on the right track. Friday’s home contest against the Minnesota Timberwolves (4-13) should bring them closer to the .500 record at home as the Wolves have dropped three straight and have shown no signs of life this year. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.

There has been some debate whether Allen Iverson has strengthened the Detroit Pistons (11-6) but they’re certainly one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference and on Friday they’ll have the chance to prove it as they host the Philadelphia 76ers (8-11) who have been a huge disappointment thus far. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.

The way the NBA schedules the season every team plays each other twice and as a result the L.A. Clippers (3-15) have to play the Memphis Grizzlies (4-14). The Clippers have stripped their team from a year ago and have all new parts yet nothing seems to be working. The Grizzlies have O.J. Mayo and Mike Conley Jr., two of the most exciting young players in the league, but have dropped seven in a row. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.

Yao Ming once again has the Houston Rockets (12-7) on his back with the absence of Tracy McGrady and they are currently atop the Southwest Division in the Western Conference. They have a good chance at improving that record when they host the Golden State Warriors (5-13) who have dropped their last seven games. Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.

The Charlotte Bobcats (7-11) have won two games in a row but are 1-4 on the road but that could end on Friday night as they travel to face the Milwaukee Bucks (8-12) who are 4-4 at home. Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.

Chris Bosh has been averaging a double-double for the Toronto Raptors (8-9) but it’s going to take a huge effort on Friday if they are going to knock off the Utah Jazz (12-8) who always play strong at home and Carlos Boozer has thrown down a double-double average as well. Tip-off is set for 10:30 p.m. ET.
