AP Top 25 College Football Scores: Virginia Tech Hokies Capture ACC Title with Win Over #18 Boston College

Darren Evans battled his way to 98 yards rushing and a touchdown, Tyrod Taylor scored a pair of TDs and the Virginia Tech Hokies (9-4, 5-3) defense forced four turnovers to knock off the #18 Boston College Eagles (9-4, 5-3) 30-12 on Saturday to capture the ACC title and earn a ticket to the Orange Bowl on January 1.

Taylor struggled with the passing game but he used his legs to get the Hokies a 14-0 advantage as he scored on a 5-yard run in the first quarter and added a 4-yard TD run early in the second. The Boston College offense looked awful throughout the first half but with 1:29 left before halftime Dominique Davis got the Eagles into the endzone with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Rich Gunnell to make it 14-7 at the break.

Unfortunately for the Eagles the late touchdown didn’t equate to momentum in the second half as the Hokies held them scoreless in the third while adding another ten points to their lead. After Dustin Keys booted a 50-yard field goal to give Virginia Tech a 17-7 lead Evans scored on a 10-yard run and the Hokies were in complete control.

Boston College managed to put a field goal on the board early in the fourth to stay within 14 points but the Hokies put the game away Orion Martin scooped up a fumble from BC quarterback Dominique Davis and rumbled 17-yards for a touchdown and a 30-10 lead with nine minutes left.

For Virginia Tech the victory was sweet revenge for their 5-point loss to the Eagles in the regular season.
