Authorities in northern Iraq say at least 8 Iraqi soldiers were killed Thursday when a suicide bomber denoted a vest of explosives at a government bank in the town of Haditha. People were gathered at the bank to collect their salaries.
"There was a group of Iraqi army soldiers standing in front of the bank to collect their salaries when a suicide bomber wearing a vest came in between them and blew himself up," police Lieutenant Ali al-Ubaidi told Reuters.
At least two civilians were killed. The wounded included 20 soldiers and 6 civilians. Haditha is located about 120 miles northwest of Baghdad.
Meanwhile in Pakistan, at least 9 people were killed and 30 others wounded in a suicide bombing. Local media reported a suicide bomber drove a vehicle packed with explosives into a police van in Hangu, a town in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Authorities say three policemen were among the dead.
