Coronation Street's Sophie Webster will hit the bottle when her life starts to fall apart.
The troubled teen - played by Brooke Vincent - has been shunned by her fellow churchgoers when they discovered she was a lesbian, seen her neighbours die in the Street's tram crash tragedy and had to deal with the fact that her father Kevin (Michael Le Vell) had secretly fathered a child with Molly Dobbs (Vicky Binns).
However, her strength is pushed to the limit when her beloved girlfriend Sian Powers (Sacha Parkinson) returns from a holiday to reveal she's become close pals with a gorgeous girl named Chloe, and Sophie immediately suspects the worst.
Brooke explained: "Sophie turns to drink to deal with how much she's hurting - almost to try and blot it all out. She thinks it'll make her feel better, but it doesn't, of course. Sophie gets herself worked up and decides she's going to confront God about it.
"She's seen pictures on Sian's Facebook page of this girl she met on holiday called Chloe. In the past, Sian having a new friend would never have bothered Sophie. But now they're in a relationship, Sophie automatically thinks Sian must fancy Chloe. She's not happy and it all keeps building up in her mind."
After her brush with booze brings out a confrontational side to the usually placid youngster, Sophie decides to demand an explanation from her local pastor as to why her life has taken a turn for the worse.
Brooke added to Inside Soap magazine: "As she drinks, she starts feeling quite confrontational. So she decides she's going to have it out with the pastor. She says to him, 'God hates me, just like you said he would!'
"The pastor tells Sophie that she misunderstood what he said, but that just makes her feel even more stupid."
