AP Top 25 College Football Scores: #2 Florida Gators Top #1 Alabama Crimson Tide to Win SEC Championship

Tim Tebow was 14/22 passing for 216 yards and three touchdowns and added another 56 yards rushing, Louis Murphy had 86 yards receiving and Riley Cooper had 56 yards and a TD on two catches as the #2 Florida Gators (12-1, 8-1) staked their claim for a BCS national championship invitation with a 31-20 victory over the #1 Alabama Crimson Tide (12-1, 8-1) in the SEC Championship game on Saturday night.

Tebow put the gators in front 7-0 in the first quarter with a 3-yard touchdown pass to Carl Moore but a Glen Coffee 18-yard touchdown run and a Leigh Tiffin 30-yard field goal put the Crimson Tide in the lead 10-7 at the end of the frame.

The Gators tied the score 10-10 after Jonathan Phillips kicked a 19-yard field goal and when Tebow tossed a 5-yard touchdown pass to David Nelson with 2:59 left before the half Florida claimed a 17-10 advantage.

Alabama came out strong in the second half as Mark Ingram capped a 15-play drive on the Crimson Tide’s opening possession with a 2-yard touchdown run to tie the game and Tiffin added a 27-yard field goal with seconds left in the third quarter for the 20-17 lead.

Florida responded with a 5:47 drive to open the fourth quarter and when Jeffrey Demps pounded it in from a yard out the Gators moved in front 24-20. After a defensive stop the Gators got the ball back and Tebow led his squad down the field and shut the door on the Tide when he hooked up with Cooper on a 5-yard TD pass on a key third down play.

With just under two minutes left in the game John Parker Wilson was intercepted and the Gators sealed the SEC championship title.

Florida is now a favorite to get a bid to the BCS national championship game to be played in Miami on January 8.
