AP Top 25 College Football Rankings Week 15: Florida Gators New #1 Oklahoma Sooners Surge to #2 Spot
The AP Top 25 college football rankings for Week 15 have been released and the Florida Gators are the new #1 team following their win over the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game on Saturday. The loss dropped the Tide from the #1 spot down to #4 this weekend ended their bid for a BCS national championship game berth.
With their convincing win in the Big 12 championship game the Oklahoma Sooners jumped two spots to #2 in the AP Top 25 week 15 rankings. The Sooners pounded the Missouri Tigers who looked helpless against an offense that put up 60+ points in their fifth straight game. The win almost certainly put the Sooners in line for a BCS national championship ticket where they will face the Florida Gators.
Failing to reach the Big 12 championship game devastated the Texas Longhorns who held their #3 spot this week. While the Longhorns beat the Sooners earlier this year it as the Sooners that got the nod to play in the Big 12 championship. That decision cost Texas a chance to play for the BCS national championship and will likely put them in line to play Alabama in a bowl game.
Saturday’s loss to the Gators dropped Alabama down to #4 this week and knocked them out of a chance to play for the national championship. The Crimson Tide will probably be facing a Longhorns squad that will be looking to prove they should have been playing in the BCS title game.
